VIA traffic halted between Toronto and Montreal.
An early morning train derailment near Kingston is expected to cause headaches for Via passengers locally.
Seven cars of a CN freight train derailed several kilometres west of Kingston around 3:30 a.m. today on CN's main railway line. The cars are blocking the tracks in both directions, meaning the busiest railway corridor in the country — from Toronto to Montreal — has been shut down.
All train services between Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa — including all local stops — have been halted as a result of the incident.
Those planning to board a Via Rail passenger train will be bused to their destinations instead, according to Via officials.
The freight derailment has blocked both tracks of CN's main line. There is no word yet on when the tracks will be cleared, but it likely won't be until the afternoon.
