Brothers and Sisters:
Our Brothers and Sisters at CN have decided to
move forward and apply the ultimate economic
sanctions against Canadian National Railway as
they will be in a legal strike position at
midnight tonight.
CN states that there is “still time” to reach a
settlement but that in the event of a strike it
will “continue freight operations across Canada”
using management personnel to work UTU related
jobs.
Although Teamsters Canada Rail Conference
members are legally required to work, as we are
under contract, you are not required to perform
any work normally done by UTU members and you
can legally refuse to do this work. Should any
problem arise concerning your ability to go to
work, please arrange to call your Local
Chairman, who will in turn contact his General
Chairman for advice. DO NOT contact the Company
on your own but rather utilize your Union
representatives to assist you.
The TCRC fully supports the UTU and its’
membership in their endeavour to secure an
agreement that will satisfy their members as
well as their members families. In closing, the TCRC and its’ full membership
wish our UTU brothers and sisters total success
in securing a suitable collective bargaining
agreement for their members. For those who have
internet access, check out the Teamsters Canada
Rail Conference web site for further
information.
