Description: The 2010 edition of the Guide,
along with its two annexes: Annex 1 - Best
Practices, and Annex 2 - Best Practices for
Small Railways were drafted through the
collaborative efforts of the Railway Safety Act
review SMS Working Group. The Working Group,
which included representatives of Transport
Canada, railway companies, railway unions,
provinces and the Railway Association of Canada,
was formed in 2008 to respond to recommendations
17, 18 and 24 of the 2007 Railway Safety Act
Review, concerning the implementation of SMS.
Fatigue Management Plans: Requirements and
Assessment Guidelines

Description: This document provides detailed
recommendations for developing fatigue
management plans, and includes guidelines for
assessing the quality of those plans.

Crossing Maintenance and Construction, formerly
known as "Schedule A Directives", is effective
as of July 1, 2008. It provides a third-party
assessment of rail costs. This guide may be used
by Canadian federally-regulated railways when
charging for work performed at crossings,
crossing warning systems, or for any other
crossing-related work either agreed to by the
parties or authorized by an order of the Agency.
The rates contained in that document are
developed from Class I railway accounting data
and might not be suitable for regional and
shortline railways
