ESSA - A stolen car was heavily damaged this morning (Wednesday)
when it was driven into a moving train and then into a parked car in
the village of Baxter.
A 26-year-old Essa man was arrested after an off-duty OPP officer
tailing the stolen car called the police communications centre for
help.
The off-duty officer said car he was following was swerving all over
the road.
Police said the car was stolen from somewhere in Essa just before 6
a.m. For reasons police didn't reveal, the stolen car collided with
three moving CP Rail cars on County Road 21 and then continued into
Baxter where it collided with a parked car.
The driver wasn't charged with impaired driving.
Police managed to stop the stolen car, but when an officer went to
arrest him he reportedly resisted and assaulted the officer.
The Essa man was to appear in court for a bail hearing sometime
today. He faces charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police
officer, theft over $5,000, possession over $5,000 and dangerous
driving.
Police said damage was excessive to both vehicles and the rail cars
received minor damage.
