Following in the steps of several other unions and non-profit
organizations, Teamsters Canada opened up its YouTube channel this
morning. This channel is intended to broadcast videos produced for
organizing campaigns or other Teamsters Canada activities.
“YouTube is a modern tool whose power we cannot ignore,” explains
Stéphane Lacroix, director of communications for Teamsters Canada.
“For us, it represents an additional way of contacting our members
and the Canadian public directly.”
Apart from YouTube, Teamsters Canada is also on Facebook and
Twitter. Social media shave become essential means for informing
Teamsters throughout Canada without any media filter.
“Today, people need to consult more than one source of information
to make an informed opinion on the challenges faced by the labour
movement,” adds Mr. Lacroix. “Our YouTube channel is yet another of
the many platforms that our members already visit in large numbers.”
Teamsters Canada invites its Local Unions and members who wish to
publish videos on YouTube to contact the communications department.
Videos must meet certain quality and relevancy criteria before they
are uploaded.
Furthermore, the media will be informed, upon request, each time new
videos are uploaded to the channel.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all
trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters
Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America. |
